Last week, I began my 4-week test of the Lotus Wei Inspired Action elixir, a mix of five flower essences designed to inspire creativity, enhance motivation, and foster spiritual insight.     I noticed the effects after the first day, and began to wonder exactly how flower essences are made and how they affect the body. So I turned to Katie Hess, organic alchemist and founder of Lotus Wei, for some answers.  "Flower essences are made when flowers are infused in water by sun...

There’s really not anything spa-like about an oil spill, but the good feeling you get when doing something to help is definitely therapeutic. New Orleans jewelry designer Mignon Faget has redesigned pieces from earlier collections to benefit the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana. Featuring wildlife such as fish, pelicans, and oysters, the sterling silver pieces are meant to be worn as mourning jewelry. You can also send donations directly to LA Gulf Response, a coalition of nonprofit...

One of the things I love most about the Bay Area is the abundance of farmers markets. And the Sunday farmers market at Jack London Square in Oakland, California is my favorite of them all. Not only is this waterfront gem a mere 8-minute drive from my apartment, it also has lots of free parking and an amazing array of fresh produce and prepared foods. This past Sunday, after strolling past a table of homemade pastas, Sukhi’s scrumptious samosas, and an almond man giving away samples of...

Our July/August issue of Spa magazine is just about to hit newsstands, and here is a peek at some of what took place behind the scenes of our Dream Spa Makeover photo shoot at Mii Amo, a destination spa at Enchantment.   We were inspired by the amazing scenery in Sedona, and almost even more inspired by our incredible contest winner, Veronica Lynch. See our behind the scenes photo gallery.

  • Shell Bottles from Wisteria
    June 17th, 2010
Going to a spa always makes me wish I had an awesome bathroom to luxuriate in. My dream version is spacious and white and vintagey: hex tiles on the floor, wainscoting, pedestal sink, standalone tub, chandelier, large windows to let light flood in. And on the windowsill I’d put these gorgeous shell-topped bottles from Wisteria. They’re a bit of an investment ($150 for three), but I love that the combination of recycled glass and Mother Nature’s handiwork means no two will be the same.
