When it comes to vacations, some people like to get away from it all while others prefer to go on adventures and soak up their new surroundings. On a recent trip to the NH Royal Beach Grand Luxury Resort on Bavaro Beach in the Dominican Republic, I found a great opportunity to do both. (Bonus: See my photos)

The NH Royal Beach is an adults-only getaway with access to a gorgeous beach and plenty of palapas on the white sand.

On my first day there, I was able to sit in a hammock slung on two palm trees and completely lose track of time. But I’m rarely content to stay in one spot whenever I’m lucky enough to visit a new location. Fortunately, the resort can arrange for guests to go horseback riding as well as visit lagoons once thought to be sacred by indigenous tribes of the area.

Of course, no trip is complete without a visit to the spa and Ram Spa at NH Royal Beach offers both attentive service and a unique concept.

As much as I love the cosmopolitan cities of Europe and the beauty of wine country at home, in California, there’s nothing like a warm beach and tropical location to help me slow down and savor each day.
