Craft beer lovers flock to the breweries of Denver, and now spa-lovers in the mile high city can get in on the action too! The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Denver just unveiled the new Mile High Malt Scrub & Microbrew Massage, a multi-step treatment using beer from the local Great Divide Brewing Company.
Why not just drink the beer rather than have it mixed into your treatment ingredients? Well, according to spa director Amelia Winfrey, beer has one of the highest energy contents of any food or drink, which helps improve circulation. Other benefits: dark beer is packed with antioxidants that help reverse cellular damage, and B vitamins found in the malt help repair damaged hair.
The treatment (75 minutes, $200) includes a Vichy shower, full-body malt scrub, stout beer body mask, shampoo and scalp massage, and a full-body massage with beer foam mixed into various moisturizers. And for those still asking why they can’t just drink the beer – don’t worry, you’ll enjoy tastings during the treatment, and when you’re finished, you get to take home a sampling of all the brew used. This is one unique treatment we’re excited to try out!

California’s super swank Beverly Wilshire has teamed up with Spanish skincare line Natura Bissé (one of our EIC Susan’s faves!) to launch A Taste of Beauty, a new (and pricey) concept that combines spa treatments and fine dining.
The concept starts with a 90-minute head-to-toe spa experience, which includes a calming welcome inhalation of essential oils, a carboxitherapy treatment (a technique that uses CO2 to produce an explosion of oxygen to refresh the face), a chakra-balancing marine and mint infusion, black magic body scrub, cyro lavendar mask and a diamond experience lotion application.
The culinary experience – a private, seven-course meal prepared by the hotel’s renown executive chef Gilles Arzur – complements the spa treatments you received with dishes like the Marine & Mint Inspiration (scallops over mint jelly) and the Black Magic Croquette (sepia-ink flavored risotto croquette). Spa touches continue throughout the meal as you inhale essential oils paired with each of the dishes.
At $1,500 per person, the experience is definitely a splurge. Would you do it?

Sandy Lane was one of our Dream Spas of the Week about a month ago – and with good reason: the 112-room Barbados resort fronts a gorgeous white sand beach, and its Spa at Sandy Lane is one of the best in the Caribbean.
The spa recently introduced a couple of new treatments that highlight the island’s local culture and ingredients, including the Bajan Head Massage. The 30-minute treatment begins with a deep inhalation of Aromatherapy Associates Frankincens oil, followed by a hair and scalp conditioning with Signature Bajan Hari Oil (made with rosemary, geranium, ylang ylang and Murumuru butter – all local specialities). Up next is a pressure point-focused head massage, followed by a lymphatic drainage over the entire scalp. After just finishing up production of our Winter issue (which will be on newsstands December 27), we could all go for one of these!
Check out 15 other cool spa treatments we’d like to try.

You may not immediately think Arizona when you hear the word bourbon, but the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale doesn’t seem to mind. Trudy Thomas, the resort’s Director of Beverages, comes to Arizona by way of bourbon-loving Kentucky, and has spearheaded the resort-wide celebration of National Bourbon Heritage Month this September.
What’s in it for us? Thomas worked with The Spa at Camelback Inn director Kelli Ziegler to create a pair of decadent, bourbon-inspired spa treatments.
The Hot Toddy Body Treatment (60 minutes, $165) includes a brown sugar and bourbon flavored body scrub, followed by a body wrap, scalp massage and Vichy shower. The Mint Julep Manicure (25 minutes, $39) brings a twist of mint to the traditional spa manicure (think warm mint-scented towels and mint-infused lotion), and it comes paired with a Strawberry Mint Julep, made with organic mint from the onsite garden and you guessed it … the beloved bourbon.
Another bonus: guests receive $50 off any one-hour spa service on Monday-Thursday throughout the month of September! For more information, visit camelbackinn.com.
