Castaway Chic
The rustic Soneva Fushi by Six Senses was one of the first locations to bring barefoot luxury to the Maldives; it’s a concept emphasized in a “No News, No Shoes” policy that encourages guests to surrender their footwear at check-in. Now the resort — certified by Green Globe, one of the world’s most respected eco-tourism watchdogs — aims to be the country’s first carbon-zero establishment, meaning it would use only clean energy. (It’s already carbon-neutral thanks to a carbon-offsetting program that donates a portion of every guest’s stay to environmental organizations.) In addition, the property models environmental responsibility with its on-site waste recycling plant that also serves neighboring islands. To help guests get in tune with the islands, the spa offers traditional treatments utilizing all-natural ingredients, such as its signature Kurumbaa Kaashi Coconut Rub —a decadent scrub/wrap combo featuring coconut, honey, and papaya to leave skin hydrated and glowing.
