Spa Tested: 5 Body Scrubs Reviewed

Slough off dead skin cells and let your new summer skin shine through. We've tested five body scrubs so that you can pick the one that's right for you.

FarmHouse Fresh Bourbon Bubbler

The scrub uses real Kentucky whiskey, brown sugar, and rice bran oil to exfoliate dead cells and moisturize skin. It’s mild enough to be used several times a week but you might need a little more product on especially rough patches of skin like the knees and elbows. As a bonus, the Bubbler contains no parabens or sulfates and it also smells delicious! ($33) –Natalie Rios, editorial assistant/research

Remedies Essentials - Sugar Scrub (Coffee)

A great pick-me-up—the sugar scrub fills the air with a fresh coffee aroma that lasts throughout the shower, but wont linger on the skin. The gentle scrub left my skin feeling soft and even a bit moisturized (it seemed to leave behind a slight oil residue that kept my skin from drying out after scrubbing). As an added bonus, the coffee grounds help to reduce the appearance of cellulite. ($14) –Veronica Sooley, photography/style director

LATHER Almond Crème Body Buff

Five skin-nourishing oils (sweet almond, jojoba, avocado, apricot, and sunflower) made the scrub feel creamy and not too abrasive. Walnut shell powder provided just the right amount of exfoliation and wasn’t as harsh as salt or sugar. As long as you like the smell of almond oil and won’t be over-powered by the sweetness, this paraben-free product is a great option to remove dead skin while moisturizing. ($18) –Victor Maze, art director

JK Soul Salts Dead Sea Salt Body Scrub

This orange blossom-scented scrub helped to slough off dead skin cells while keeping my skin soft with organic apricot kernel oil. As an inspirational bonus, my scrub was also packaged with some bath-time wisdom: "Do what you love and the money will follow." How’s that for truth in a jar? ($32) –Maria Wakem, senior editor

Equavie Delicious Indulgence Exfoliating Balm

This skin-softening scrub uses sugar crystals and cocoa butter to exfoliate and moisturize skin. The scent is subtly sweet and not at all overpowering, and the texture isn't too abrasive, which is nice for those of us with sensitive skin. Leaves even the roughest patches (knees, elbows) feeling smoother and, thankfully, doesn't leave behind an oily residue. ($40) –Stephanie Kinnear, web editor

I wonder 1) how many ounces each scrub container has and 2) if it's possible to buy the items in other sizes (ex trial/jumbo/etc).

lsucindy,

The name of each scrub (in pink) is actually a link to the manufacturer's website. So you can click through and see the ounces, and what (if any) other sizes are for sale. Hope that helps!

Love the reviews! Always great to find out about hidden gems. A good sugar scrub is hard to beat. We (Supernatural Botanicals) makes an all natural, vegetable based sugar scrub with organic sugar. It never seperates (oil on top, sugar on bottom). It took us a year to formulate it, but it was well worth it. It's amazing. Check it out: http://supernaturalbotanicals.com/GrapefruitSugarScrub.html
