Spa at Home: Seaweed Bath Soak

Skip the bath salts next time and instead add vitamin and mineral-richs seaweed to your soak.
by Kat Engh

Prized as a natural antiseptic by a host of cultures throughout history, seaweed has become a modern-day wonder ingredient for luxurious, therapeutic spa treatments and natural skincare lines. According to Jennifer Reichel, M.D., director of the Pacific Dermatology & Cosmetic Center in Seattle, the secret to seaweed's healing power lies in its wide variety of vitamins and minerals. With nutrients such as zinc to exfoliate and tone, calcium and B vitamins to moisturize, and vitamin A and copper to boost collagen and reduce sun damage, seaweed acts as a natural multi-vitamin for the skin.

Seaweed in the Bath: For a fun treatment at home, Reichel suggests dropping a few sheets of seaweed (the same kind used for sushi) in a warm bath along with a few drops of an aromatherapy oil of your choice. After a warm, detoxifying soak, you'll come out feeling smooth as sashimi.
