How do you read a skin care label? Does the order in which the ingredients are listed mean anything?
Most of us are trained to think that ingredients are listed in the order of concentration, but that's not entirely true. A manufacturer has to list in order only those ingredients with a concentration higher than 1 percent. Anything with a concentration of 1 percent or less can be listed in any order the manufacturer desires.
However, some over-the-counter ingredients-such as salicylic acid, sunscreens, etc.-are regulated by the FDA, so products containing those ingredients will have a drug fact panel on the label that lists their exact percentages.
