Ask the Expert: What's the Best Way to Get Rid of Puffiness Quickly?

By: Celeste Hilling

Caffeine

I need to detox and look less puffy for holiday parties and into the New Year. How can I safely do so quickly and effectively?

First: If you smoke, stop! Cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 toxins, many of which are absorbed directly into the bloodstream and are taken into the skin's structure.

You also need plenty of sleep. Ease into a good night's rest by turning off the television, taking a warm bath, dimming the lights, lighting candles, and practicing breathing exercises.

There are also some proven ingredients that can help you detox. Moroccan Rhassoul Clay has been used for more than 1,400 years as a soap, shampoo, and skin conditioner. Today, spas use the clay for its therapeutic benefits. When used as a facial and body mask, Rhassoul washes like soap and leaves a unique, sweet scent on the skin. Because Rhassoul contains higher percentages of silica, magnesium, potassium, and calcium than other clays, it appears to be far more effective.

Caffeine is another amazing ingredient used for detoxing. When applied to the skin, caffeine/caffeic acid acts as a diuretic to help release toxins and excess water retention that contribute to puffiness. It also reduces dark circles and the appearance of spider veins.
